Delicious Japanese Food With Spanish Flavours

I am excited about my first restaurant review! This place offers delicious Japanese food with Spanish flavours, Nomo Gràcia.

I discovered this place during my first months in the city, and I have to admit, it is a restaurant I enjoy visiting again and inviting visitors to.

About this Japanese restaurant in Barcelona

Tuna futomaki & tuna sashimi

Nomo is ideally positioned in Gracia. It is easy to encounter as not too far from the Diagonal Metro. The design is simple and elegant, with a long sushi bar that starts from the entrance. The terrace is also available for seating. The restaurant is usually busy. It is preferable to make a reservation in advance.

In addition, the service is excellent and friendly which is not always a given in Barcelona. The restaurant serves a wide range of traditional Japanese dishes including tartars, tempura, teppan-yaki, sushi and sashimi. All are prepared with high-quality ingredients.

It can be difficult to make a decision, especially if you want to stick to your favourite foods while also trying something new. Eating with a large party and sharing several dishes is the best solution to that “problem”. It is also more fun.

2023: Hotate to foie

Anyway, the thing I appreciate best about this restaurant is the fusion cuisine. They offer Japanese food infused with Spanish flavours, which I have yet to find elsewhere.

The last two times I have gone here, I have ordered the unagi to foie no ura maki. It combines eel and foie gras in an uramaki. So delectable. I want to come back for more when I think about it.

I also had the hotate to foie no teriyaki, which is a scallop served in a spoon with grilled foie and teriyaki sauce. The mix was delicious. The texture was nice. I also appreciate the introduction of Spanish ingredients in some dishes such as the iwashi no tataki or the sardine tataki marinated with Iberic ham or the king crab tempura with pimientos del Padron. Here is a link to the menu.

Given the quality, I believe the price is reasonable. Our most recent bill came to 62 Euros for five courses shared between two people.

Update 2021

I returned to Nomo in 2021. Even though the quality of the ingredients was excellent, the food somehow lacked its usual standards. In addition, the service was just correct. My friend who was unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine made a blunder and the waiter was a bit patronising. I would still come back though and give them another shot. Let’s see how things turn out next time I eat there.

Toro canelone with avocado

Dinner last night. Nomo is once again the nice restaurant we are familiar with: quality ingredients, delicious food, and smiley and friendly waiter.
