Trendy and Laid-Back Latin Food in Barcelona

You have guessed the tone of my blog by now. I love world cuisine this why I talk a lot about Asian and Latin food in Barcelona.

We regularly go to this restaurant for an informal girly dinner close to the beach: FOC Barceloneta. Their menu offers a variety of street food dishes from Latin America: Brasil, Peru, Argentina, and Mexico. Foc Barceloneta caters for all tastes from meat eaters to vegetarian and vegan diners. They also have options without gluten.

The atmosphere

Coaster

FOC Barceloneta is a trendy eatery with a laid-back vibe. It has a big terrace visible from the streets. I prefer to stay on the terrace even in the winter. With the lights, decorations, and view of the sea, it makes me feel like I am on vacation. The customised coasters also pretty cool.

The restaurant generally has music playing. However, I was not really hearing it from the terrace. That is fine by me. I prefer to have conversations with my friends rather than having to speak over loud music while we are out to eat.

Starting with the street food

Latin food in Barcelona Gambas and mango salad

I enjoy eating here because the food is fun, fresh and tasty. It is ideal for light dinners because some of plates are presented like tapas and the majority of dishes are light. We have a habit of ordering the same things everytime we come. Haha. Is it a good thing? I am not sure. But it can be difficult to try anything new when you know what you like.

We keep coming back to our classics: papas de yuca (yuca fries) to share, seabass ceviche with sweet potatoes, mango and yuca chips (that we also share), and the heura bowl as a main course. I like that they added heura to their menu and follow food trends now that a lot of people go vegan or healthy.

Snacks/tapas style platters are available to share. They are perfect if you want a drink and grab a small bite! They are also great as a starter. The “mains” can be small and not filling depending on how hungry you are. Once I ordered the gambas and mango salad. Without the yuca fries, it would not have been enough to fill me up. Next time, I will try the coxinhas and the milanesa sandwich.

The cocktails are pretty and colourful. For signature cocktails experience, it is better to go to a cocktail bar. The ones served here are great to accompany the food and have a good time.

Service & value for this latin food in Barcelona

So far, I have had a pleasant experience in Foc Barceloneta. The service has always been friendly and the waiters have always been cheerful.

In terms of value, the price varies based on what you order. The pan de queso is worth 4.80 Euros. The ceviche 14.40 Euros. One of the most expensive dish is the picanha. It costs 33.90 Euros for two people to share.

My bill usually comes to roughly 20 euros for a main dish, my share of the appetizer and a drink. For me, it is good value for an evening out in a good atmosphere.

The location in Barceloneta

FOC is well located on the main artery of Barceloneta, close to the beach. It is easily reachable by bus, my preferred way to get there.

If you want to eat latin food in Barcelona, at FOC Barceloneta, please keep in mind that they do not take reservations. Despite the fact that they are often busy, we never had to wait for a long time to find a table.
