A Great Wine Bar in Barcelona

I have been enjoying time with friends and … wine lately! And guess what? We discovered a great wine bar in Barcelona!

Zona d’ombra

I discovered Zona d’ombra walking in the Gothic quarter one evening on my way to a stand-up comedy show nearby. And I promised myself to return one day. The place looked inviting from the outside, with its million – ok, I push a little bit here – shelved bottles of wine.

And last week, we decided to have a girly catch-up here. Zona d’ombra is a wine bar and restaurant. I won’t focus much on the food. To avoid drinking wine on an empty stomach, we ordered pimientos del padrón and pan con tomate. They were correct.

Our wine experience

The wine, though, was a different story. We both opted for red by the glass. I suggested that my friend try Priorat, a wine I discovered for the first time in Scala Dei. I recalled a red wine with character and a unique history.

She tried a glass and was ecstatic about it. I wanted a glass of red that was “lighter” and easy to drink. The barman enthusiastically suggested, Idoia, a Catalan wine made from a blend of Garnacha and Syrah. Great advice! I loved it, and it was just what I needed.

A fabulous selection of wine by the glasses

Zona d’Ombra offers an incredible selection of wine by the glass, which is fantastic for options and tastes. You can choose your glass of wine from the menu and a wall-mounted blackboard.

The place specialises in Catalan wine, but you can also drink wine from other Spanish regions, such as Ribera del Duero. They have a shop that has more than 300 references in its catalogue.

And last but not least, the staff is friendly. It makes the experience even more pleasant. I will come back!
