That was one fabulous evening with friday blues at the Modern Art Museum of Barcelona!
I saw a small insert in one of Barcelona’s numerous free magazines. Every Friday from January to the end of March, there was a Blues concert in a museum. Intriguing… One evening, I eventually invited friends to join in one evening.
The Museu Europeu d’Art Modern (MEAM) is new to me. As its Catalan name refers to, it is a Modern Art Museum. I have walked right past it without really noticing. The entrance is discreet but enticing. We can see the façade of an old renovated palace. I like the look of the staircase, and I cannot wait to see inside the building.
Inside the Modern Art Museum
Wow! The rooms are filled with colourful and expressive paintings and sculptures.
I run into my friends. They have a drink. There is a bar inside the museum! The concert begins. A friend of mine, Z, and I decide to stroll about admiring the paintings and taking in the music.
I don’t recall ever seeing such realistic paintings. I momentarily wonder whether any of these images are photomontages because they resemble actual photographs. It is even more confusing when the image depicts modern situations like this young girl in short pants. But these are paintings.
Meet with Figurative Art, an art style that represents things as they are in real life. I am impressed.
And the music? What about the music?
We watch a swing band performing US standards like Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, and other great stuff from the 50s. The band exudes strong positive energy and a lot of passion.
The band enjoy themselves playing, as does the public watching them fascinated. And we, my friend Z and I, dance in our own corner of the museum, and have fun surrounded by beautiful art. That was a fabulous evening with great music, art, nice vibes, good company, drinks and good time.
This event repeats every year so check out the website for next year. I will surely come back.
We saw Miquel Roldan Swingtet Trio @ Friday’s blues in the MEAM.
