Sunday Afternoon: The Palo Alto Market in Poblenou

Looking for a Sunday plan? We discovered the Palo Alto Market in Poblenou.

A Sunday plan: Brunch & the Palo Alto Market

An email arrived in my inbox: “Design, fashion, street market, boheme, gourmet street food, workshops, music and performances… all mixed in the coolest venue.” I raise my eybrows, mmh tell me more. “Palo Alto Market is a sophisticated and avant-garde street market…” Stop there, I am in!

Prior to the market, I attended a girly brunch to celebrate us during Women’s day. Brunch was fantastic mainly because the group was fun. I had a good time overall despite the fact that one of the girls’ bag was stolen and the bill was incorrect.

At the end of the brunch, our host mentioned an event that turned out to be the same market I wanted to see. 4 of us decided to go and have a look.

The venue

This street market is in Poblenou. For me, this is not the most thrilling part of town. It appeared deserted until we arrived at Carrer dels Pellaires and find a large line. We queue, pay and are greeted by the delicious aroma of grilling pancetta (sorry, vegan and vegetarian friends). There is quite a crowd over here.  The venue is amazing. The garden looks like a lost garden in the heart of the city. In the evening, with the lights on, it is even cooler. There is a nice vibe going on, a little hipstery but not cliquey.

The food

The invitation’s description was correct: there will be gourmet street food and I see all those famous food trucks I have read about in fashion and trendy magazines. We all are feeling hungry out of a sudden.

So we decide to explore all the food stalls in order to get something to eat. It was a difficult decision. Everyone of us picks something different. I had a steak tartar with gin tonic jelly on top. It was yummy. The portion was small but it was yummy. We ate in one of the gardens while listening to the DJ.

Palo Alto market: a creative street market

Once our tummies full, we continued to explore. This is an interesting market. There are antiques for sale, unique and original jewelry, accessories, design items such as clothes, shoes, and wooden glasses.

I purchased a coat. Pitagora, a Barcelona brand that produces limited-edition created this piece. I needed to update my wardrobe and I had been eyeing an oversized, masculine and asymetrical coat for quite some time. We were walking and around a corner… bang! Wish granted!

The market is amazing and we are happy. Everyone is our group  was ecstatic about discovering and having a good time.

…with music

We continued strolling and then we came accross the jazz club. There is even a jazz club within the market! Cool…The band was called Khaoula & Friends Trio. The singer was fabulous! Khaoula had a powerful voice, loads of good energy, good songs, a killer style with her mini shorts and maxi coat, and she could really move her hips – if I might even say, they don’t lie :).

It was a fantastic concert! And I thoroughly enjoyed myself that day.
