Best Ramen in Barcelona: Ramen-Ya Hiro

I have found the best ramen in Barcelona! This place is turning into one of my favs in the city.

I discovered this ramen place thanks to a friend who recommended it. We had dinner there before our Saturday night out!

The place opens at 20h30, but we arrived at 20h because she said there was always a big queue outside. Besides, they do not accept reservations! Alas, many people had the same brilliant idea.

We had to wait one hour and thirty minutes (in the cold, yikes) before we could get a table. If the length of time you spend queuing to eat is a sign that a place is good, then this one must be fantastic.

Ramen-ya hiro, the place

When we were finally close to the door, the waitress asked if we wanted seats on the terrace or inside. It was way too cold to be out. We chose to stay indoors. We are still in winter, even if it is one Barcelona winter!

The interior was small and packed. At the bar, there were a few tables, some stools, and…several Japanese people diners. That would include my left-hand side neighbour. Second good sign!

Dinner at the bar

Thankfully, we got two seats at the wooden bar. Our spot was great because we could watch the cook in the open kitchen.

He was skillfully juggling the different pans on the stove cooking the noodles. They prepare the broth and the noodles in their kitchen the traditional way.

The menu is quite simple: a few starters, a few rice dishes, a few desserts, and two ramen types: one with a miso base and another one with a soy sauce base.

Gyozas and ramen

We placed our order: a dish of gyozas to share and one miso ramen each. They had a few selections of extra toppings for the ramen.

One of them was butter. Butter? Mmm…Interesting. My aforementioned left-hand side neighbour ordered it in his soup.

The way he slurped it, it must be delicious. But tonight, we will have the “normal” ramen. No toppings (yet), please!

What a yummy ramen!

So what is a ramen? A ramen is a popular Japanese dish. It is a soup dish with Chinese-style wheat or egg noodles served in rich broth.

Ramen-Ya Hiro has miso and soy sauce-flavoured ramen, as mentioned above. Our ramen already came with toppings like a soft-boiled egg and cha-su (this is the one I got).

The bowl size was enough to fill you for the night. Check out the picture above to get an idea!

Was the food worth the wait?

Gyozas from Ramen-Ya Hiro

Well, both gyozas and ramen were seriously delicious. The broth was tasty. It did not leave my palate indifferent.

It also made me want to go back for more very soon. And maybe then I won’t have to wait that long. But honestly, I think the wait was worth it. I have had the best ramen in Barcelona that night.

And guess what? The prices are very reasonable. 7.50 euros for a bowl. I can only recommend the place!

Post edit 2023

It is now possible to book a table on the restaurant’s webpage. You can order some take-aways and also benefit from delivery.

The price of the ramen is now 12.30 Euros.
