Delicious Dim Sums in Barcelona – Closed

If you are looking for dim sums in Barcelona, check out Dim Sum Cantonesas, situated in the city centre.

Da place

You won’t miss it. This eatery is the only Chinese restaurant I have found in Barcelona with roast ducks hanging by the neck in the shop window, like in China and many Chinatowns around the world. For many, it is weird, but for me, it is a sign that the food is authentic. As of today, this place is my favourite Chinese restaurant in the city.

The place is small. I like the decor because when I sit there, I can perfectly imagine myself being somewhere in Asia with booth seats and tables on both sides of the alleyway. Pictures that could have been taken in an exotic Asian country and some cartoon figures decorate the wall.

Dim sums and all

Char siu with rice and chicken feet dishes

The menu displays photos and descriptions of several dim sum dishes, steamed and fried.

Dim sums originated in Canton, a Chinese city now called Guangzhou. They refer to small bite-sized dishes best enjoyed with tea, in the company of family and friends, usually as appetisers. My favourite is the Siu Mai – steamed dumplings filled with pork and prawns enclosed with wonton wrappers – which are quite tasty here.

Then you have a few roast dishes served with white rice. I usually order the char siu (Cantonese roast pork meat) with white rice.

Final words

Is this place fancy? No. But the food has the flavour profile I expect from authentic Chinese cuisine. The dumplings’ prices range between 2.5 and 4 euros, and a roast with rice dish an average of 6 euros.

I have not tasted the sweet dishes yet, but they look good. Next time for sure!

Post edit February 2023: Dim Sum Cantonesas is closed

Dim Sum Cantonesas is now permanently closed. That is a pity! It offered delicious Chinese food at a very affordable price, in the heart of the city. Let’s hope somehow it reopens again. It has been seen in the past in the restaurant business.
