I love oysters. After a long search, I finally found a great oyster bar in Barcelona, Thierry Oyster Bar.
A great oyster bar in the city centre
Thierry Oyster Bar is located in the centre of Barcelona, in Eixample.
It is compact and has a bar that runs the length of the establishment. There are a few tables inside, and I noticed a few tables outside as well now.
The decor is “maritime”, with mirrors and lamps decorated with seashells and empty oyster shells piling up on the front window.
Blackboards on the wall show the selection of oysters on offer and their prices. They also display cold and canned dishes.
This is the perfect place for a light dinner or an aperitive. Indeed, the menu is limited to the products mentioned earlier, and the dishes are small.
Eating oysters in Barcelona
Before I found this bar, I used to buy oysters from the supermarkets. Sometimes I ordered them in restaurants. The quality was good, but they were usually expensive, so I used to buy them by the unit.
However, I grew up eating oysters the French way: by half a dozen or by the dozen. So the experience was never really satisfying until the Thierry Oyster Bar experience.
Here I can get a selection of quality oysters by half a dozen or by the dozen at a reasonable price. The “cheapest” oysters are at 18 euros a dozen. And guess what? Their oysters are imported from the Atlantic from one of the best oyster producers in France.
I love oysters in all of their forms
As I wrote earlier, I love oysters and I love them in all of their forms (raw, cooked, with dressing, with toppings, in tempura, or in a Po boy…). Here, the oysters are served raw with lemon wedges.
I also like my oysters with a red wine vinegar and shallots sauce like in France. It would be nice to find that sauce here in the future, if I might make a suggestion to Mr Thierry.
When we come, we usually order rye bread and French butter too. The butter is so creamy and super delicious with its salty taste, a great combination with the oysters.
We also ordered a lovely pink Rimarts cava with them.
What else can I say about this place?
I also tried other dishes here like the salmon and the cod plates or the blinis with salmon roe and cream. Portions are small. Not for the starved. But everything is delicious.
Let’s get real though, the best here are the oysters for the quality and the price! So we will definitely come back for them!
