I planned a surprise birthday for a loved one and tried to come up with a fun activity to do. While speaking with friends, the idea of laser tag in Barcelona came up and I decided to dig up around that theme.
Laser tag is like paintball. The game is mainly played in teams however it can also be played individually. Each player wears a jacket with infrared-sensitive targets that the other players hit with a laser ray.
Usually, for space reasons, venues are situated out of town and therefore require a car. So it had been a nice surprise to find Play Point right in the middle of Barcelona, in Carrer del Comte Borrell, 88.
The venue is indoor so it is perfect for cold weather and rainy days like now in October. The price is also attractive: 7.50 Euros for a game, 13 euros for 2 and 18 euros for 3.
Laser tag in Barcelona: game on!
After a five-minute briefing, each player gets his jacket. Then the game is on. You cannot run in the corridors. That limits physical exhaustion if you are a tad lazy like me.
When you play individually, you play against each other and try to score points by hitting the other players.
In teams, you protect a base. Shooting the base is worth 2000 points and it is quite exciting to enter the adversary camp to try to hit it.
Anyone can play laser tag: kids, teens and adults (even my 65-year-old mum, yes she is cool!). As we were just two of us the first time we went, they paired us with a team of teenagers who took us under their wings. We fought against some other kids and their parents who came for a birthday.
It was quite fun to go around and try to win points targeting opponents. All this in the dark. It was also fun to hide and protect oneself from the adversaries’ attacks.
I was so focused on the game, I forgot the time and lived completely in the present. Twenty minutes felt like an eternity.
And the bonus? As you play with laser light, the game is much less painful than with paintball balls. No bruises going home!!
Even if the venue is not huge and running is prohibited, you still sweat! So if you go, don’t plan a fancy dinner as I did afterwards! They don’t have showers…
